Ceramics: David Crane
Paintings: Janet Niewald
Perspective Gallery is hosting the exhibit TWO x TWO by Virginia Tech School of Visual Arts faculty, David Crane and Janet Niewald, through August 11, 2012. The art created by this talented duo reflects their deep connection to process in creating within their chosen media. Even as we installed the exhibit, Janet discussed her paintings as to what she learned or wanted to do more of in the work exhibited. Although all work is complete, the love of the act of painting seems to inspire Janet as much as the idea of finishing a piece, maybe even more,
David's work is solid, full and imbued with form that asks you to wonder what is inside. Even though each piece has the sense of being solidly anchored, there is also something fragile about it (beyond the fact that it is made of clay).
Interestingly, David and Janet are also a married couple. This exhibit expresses the importance of balance and does so beautifully and solemnly.
