I'll Show You Mine if You Show Me Yours

Baldwin True North
I heard Mindy and Baldwin speak at Alan Weinstein's Creativity and Aesthetics class. Their talk was about their life and thus their art. "If you want to know if you are compatible with someone, live with them in a van for a year." Baldwin and Mindy said this at the beginning of their talk, and yes, this is what they decided to do after they met on their first day at MICA (Maryland Institute College of Art). It didn't seem like leaving art school was a very hard decision for these two. Mindy stated that, "I wasn't interested in having a 100,000 dollars of debt after 4 years at art school. I was more interested in being a folk artist."

Mindy North
Mindy really isn't a folk artist when it comes to her abstract, landscape-inspired paintings. A self-proclaimed horizon line painter, Mindy has embraced her childhood influences of the rugged Wyoming countryside, and embedded them into her work. If you have never experienced being diminished by landforms, then you need to go to Wyoming for a visit. In many places a human can feel larger than life. Not in Wyoming though. In Wyoming you are put in you place as a human. The harsh, rugged hillsides change at every turn of the earth; revealing within you your ultimate fragility.
