Hearts in the Valley

Perspective Gallery has a new exhibit called Hearts in the Valley: Agnes Carbrey and Ryan Russell A 10 Year Retrospective.  What you see above is your first encounter with the show as you walk into the gallery. The art above belongs to Ryan, painter of still life and landscapes. Ryan is a plein Air painter, an artist who paints from life, in the moment. Ryan is a time stopper.
Bonanza (above left), Homegrown (right), both oil on canvas.

Artwork above L-R Head Above Water, Family Portrait, and Rana Sphenocephala. Both paintings are oil on canvas, and are portraits. The drawing in the center is a triptych and is acrylic on Plexiglas.   Agnes Carbrey

Agnes Carbrey's work includes both drawings and paintings. As I was hanging the exhibit I had a strong sense about Agnes's connection to the passage of time. She and Ryan have symbiotic views of time. In other words we can be in the moment, aware of "right now," or sensitive to how we are moving through time.

The question is, can we do both simultaneously?

Trigometric Parellax (above), includes an interactive section where the viewer is invited to participate by adding their thoughts onto the lower "blackboard" using conte crayons and/or
charcoal.

I added pillows to "invite" people to participate. It seems to be working. People like to stop time for a moment and rest. Maybe they are thinking about what they can do next on the chalkboard?

Next installment...a secret alcove with Agnes' figure drawings, and what the deal is with our "love" theme this semester.
