Blackburg Oil on Canvas
Perspective Gallery is hosting oil paintings by artist Leila Cartier March 17 through April 12.
The bird above will welcome you at the door when you arrive!
Please come to the opening reception tomorrow, March 23, 2012 between 5 and 7 p.m to meet Leila and to see her paintngs up close. She is also going to give an informal gallery talk at 5:30. I'm not going to tell you much more because I really want you to see her work, but some of the thematic elements involve feathers (and pomp), and people wearing them. I'll also give you a hint that the portrait of the bird above is just one of many portraits in this very pink exhibit.
Leila paints in a manner that makes you want to touch the works. The paint is applied in a sensual manner which creates a strong visceral response to touch...I've watched several people catch themselves in mid-air before actually touching the work. People also move up very close to the work to see it better.
When comparing and contrasting the last exhibit (see previous blogs) by Randy Simmons to the Leila Cartier exhibit they are yin and yang...Leila's work being the yin, Randy's the yang. And as this is Women's Month, and V-Day is right around the corner, I think Leila's exhibit is not only important, but appropriate.
Come to this exhibit...it's more than what meets the eye.
A link to Leila's website is on the right.
